The latest developments are a new business showroom and two subdivisions earmarked for a mix of light industrial, commercial and retail businesses.
The McLellans' Plumbing and Heating showroom will be 900sqm over two floors in the centre of Alexandra, on the corner of Deel and McDonald Sts, between two other McLellan's buildings.
The construction is stage two of an earlier McLellan's development of a 450sqm warehouse and workshop in 2011. At the time, during the recession, the building was the first commercial development in Alexandra for about three years.
Mr McLellan said then the warehouse was a vote of confidence in the Alexandra economy and community and he said his latest 900sqm development was, too.
``We want to show people that things are positive here. Our plan is to develop a hub for the wider Central Otago area, and give people a good reason to come to Alexandra to do business.''
The bottom of the building would become the McLellan's showroom and it was proposed to lease some upstairs sites to other businesses, Mr McLellan said.
Two other developments are also planned on the other side of town, in industrial-zoned areas.
Canepa Developments has recently announced its proposed Dunstan Business Park, on Ngapara St, comprising 25 1000sqm sections.
It was hoped the first sites would be available within about six months, one of Canepa's directors, Jeff Vessey, said.
Canepa had owned the land for about six years and now was the right time to progress with the development, Mr Vessey said.
``Things are pretty buoyant. It's the right time to make it [the development] available.''
He anticipated the sites would be filled with light industrial businesses with a commercial/retail frontage, similar to many other businesses in Ngapara St.
Raggedy Range Ltd is also advertising sites in its Russell St development.
The 9000sqm area will be comprised of sites ranging in size from 100sqm to 1000sqm. They will be design-and-build options, which businesspeople will lease from Raggedy Range. Three of the sites are tenanted already.
One of the Raggedy Range directors, Lindsay Breen, said the sites were being marketed for commercial, industrial, trade, office or retail space, and it was hoped one site would be occupied by a cafe. The site backs on to the Otago Central Rail Trail.
