A Cromwell man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to supply MDMA, but disputes his level of culpability in the case.
Devon Gregory Mathieson (21), metal moulder, appeared before Judge Michael Turner in the Alexandra District Court on a charge of conspiring with Sam O'Callaghan to supply to persons unknown a class B drug, namely MDMA, between October 23-26 in Clyde.
The charge is in relation to police intercepting about 500g of MDMA (ecstacy) from unoccupied holiday homes in Clyde.
Counsel for Mathieson, Fiona Guy Kidd, said Mathieson's role had been to check addresses for the packages and he admitted the charge.
However, he disputed how many packages he had known about, saying he was only looking for one package.
Judge Turner said police inferred that because Mathieson went to three addresses where packages were found he must have known there was more than one package.
Judge Turner entered no conviction at the request of Ms Guy Kidd, who said she would look into whether a conviction could affect Mathieson's ability to travel to Australia, where his mother lived. She may consider an application for a discharge without conviction.
The case was remanded until March 23 for a date to be set for sentencing.
