Consent granted for historic precinct

Resource consents sought in five separate applications have been granted by the Central Otago District Council's hearings panel, including consents for Old Cromwell Inc to further develop the Old Cromwell Town historic precinct.

• Ian Day, of Alexandra, applied for land use consent to establish, occupy, and maintain a rural lifestyle servicing and supplies shop with associated offices, carparking, and loading facilities on property fronting Airport Rd and State Highway 8 near Alexandra.

Submitters on the proposal, which Mr Whitney recommended should be denied consent, will be able to have their say at the panel's meeting next week. A decision on whether to grant consents, as requested in an application by Alexandra developer Shaun McLellan, has yet to be issued by the panel.

• Old Cromwell Inc was granted land use consent to build modern representations of historic buildings within the precinct, including the Globe Hotel and Post and Telegraph Office.

Relocations of Behrens Barn and the Village Green were also proposed in the application, consent of which was granted subject to 18 conditions.

• Greenfield Rural Opportunities Ltd was granted retrospective land use consent for earthworks associated with forming a track, as well as land use consent to gravel the track. Its application related to work done on farming land within the Upper Manorburn Lake Onslow Landscape Management Area. Consent was granted subject to nine conditions.

• Mt Difficulty Wines Ltd received consent subject to 18 conditions, for earthworks and height restriction breaches associated with the construction of a new processing facility at its Bannockburn property.

It was also granted changes to previous consent conditions, in order for the planned construction and operation of the winery building, tasting, sales, and administration facility, as well as an upgrade of an effluent disposal system.

• Ventry Holdings Ltd received subdivision consent to create a unit title subdivision, and land use consent for the multi-unit development to breach yard and height rules.

The proposed Ventry St development would occupy a site which had previously housed a dwelling and garage. Consent was granted subject to a total of 29 conditions.

• Forth Sunderland Ltd had its proposed sign, to be situated within the Blue Skies Subdivision at Springvale, consented. The promotional 6m by 3m sign would advertise allotments for sale, and was consented subject to 10 conditions.
