Plans are progressing for a new community house for Alexandra.
The old buildings near St Enoch's Church on Centennial Ave which presently house Citizen's Advice Bureau, Budget Advice Services and Catholic Social Services, Central Otago Women's Support Link, and the hall and opportunity shop, are getting run down and need to be replaced, Octa management consultant Chris Brick said.
The land is owned by the Alexandra Clyde Lauder Union Parish, which obtained funding from Central Lakes Trust to commission Octa Associates of Dunedin to prepare a feasibility study.
The feasibility study is now complete and will be discussed by a steering committee before the end of this month.
"Once that is done, we will then go about sourcing funds from Central Lakes Trust, Otago Community Trust and the Lotteries Commission," Mr Brick said.
The new building must be affordable to all the tenants, and cannot carry any debt, he said.
At present, about 10 full-time groups rent spaces in the building with about 30 more interested in using the new community house.
