A crash at the intersection of State Highways 6 and 8B, near Cromwell, on Saturday afternoon was the third crash there in as many weeks.

Sergeant Mike Williams said the accident, which happened just before 3pm, occurred when the driver of a car travelling from Queenstown turned into SH8B.

The driver failed to give way to a car travelling on SH6 from Wanaka towards Queenstown, he said.

Neither driver was injured, nor the passenger in the car that was struck.

However, the driver of the car that turned into SH8B was taken to the Cromwell Medical Centre for assessment. Sgt Williams said it was likely that person would be charged.

The intersection is the subject of a New Zealand Transit Agency investigation.
