About 220 people involved with the firm, including staff and past and present clients, gathered at The Cellar Door from 5.30pm, where drinks and nibbles were served before speeches were made.
Bodkins' main office is in Alexandra, and a total of 18 staff work for the firm including at its Cromwell and Queenstown offices.
The business was founded by Sir William Bodkin, who was born at Queenstown in 1883 and grew up around Clyde.
In 1909 he was admitted to the Bar and bought a legal practice in Alexandra which, in 1930, became known as Bodkin and Sutherland.
Sir William, who died at Alexandra in 1964, specialised in mining and irrigation law, and was also involved in local and national politics.
Today, Bodkins partners are Alexandra lawyers Kieran Tohill and Dave Gibson.
