The badly decomposed body was found by the caravan's owner when she checked the caravan on Thursday for the first time in about a year.
On Friday, Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw said distinctive items of clothing and a document found at the scene gave a ''strong indication'' it was Mr Garrick, but dental records and DNA tests were needed.
In a statement yesterday he said formal identification had been completed and Mr Garrick's family advised.
The coroner would determine the cause of death, he said. Last week, Det Sgt Shaw said the death was being treated as ''unexplained'' - foul play did not appear to be a factor.
The last confirmed sighting of Mr Garrick (42) was in Dunedin last October.
His family reported him missing in May and police launched a homicide investigation in September, fearing Mr Garrick had met an ''untimely death''.
