Central Stories operational manager Paula Stephenson said a pipe burst in Henderson Gallery on Wednesday.
There had not been a lot of damage but the water had been turned off to the building.
Parts required to repair it were not available and the building would be closed until next Wednesday, she said.
The closure also affected the movie theatre Central Cinema and the Alexandra Public Library, which were in the same building.
Last week the Alexandra Public Library relocated to Central Stories while the library was being refurbished.
