An increase in the number of homes, farm sheds and commercial premises being built has boosted the value of Central Otago building consents for two successive years.
Although the number of consents issued last year was down 6% on the previous year's figures, the value increased in 2012 and in 2013.
Figures provided to the Otago Daily Times revealed the value of consents issued last year went up 12% on the previous year's figure and the 2012 value was 22% higher than the year before.
Consents for buildings worth a total of $71,894,286 were issued in 2013, compared with $64,281,368 in 2012 and $52,707,704 in 2011.
Within the district, the Cromwell, Alexandra and Manuherikia wards all recorded a rise in consent numbers and values in 2013, compared with the previous year, while in the Earnscleugh ward, the number was down but the value rose.
Numbers and values were down in the Maniototo and Roxburgh wards.
New homes, commercial premises and farm sheds were the main contributors to the increase in consent values throughout the district.
