Twilight triples corporate bowls is here to stay, following the success of its first Alexandra season.

A total of 45 people, mostly in workplace teams from businesses such as Wastebusters and New World, took part in the 10-week summer competition. Games began each week on Tuesdays at 6pm.

Players were assisted by 14 Alexandra RSA bowling club members on the club green.

‘‘In November, we started corporate bowls for nonbowlers at our club and we had a great response with fifteen teams registering,'' president Bev Johns said.

‘‘There were any number of players in a team but only three could take the field.''

Quite a few people brought along their families and about nine children learnt how to play on a smaller green.

‘‘We're very keen to keep the corporate thing going because they all seem to enjoy it so much.

‘‘From what we understand, next year will be bigger and better.''

It was hoped some of those who took part may join the club, which has about 100 members at present.

However, club games were generally played during the week which often ruled out corporate players.

‘‘Most of them are working people.

‘‘Corporate bowls gave them an idea of what it's all about and if we did get more interest we could look at Saturday or Sunday competition for working people.''
