If you are a general bibliophile, or just a lover of fiction, non-fiction and/or science fiction, then today's plastic-bag-free Cromwell Rotary Club's annual Queen's Birthday Weekend book sale will be the place to be.

Thousands of books in all genres will be on sale at the Cromwell Bowling Club premises on Alpha Street, from 9am today until 6pm, and then from 9am to 4pm tomorrow, Sunday and Monday.

Sale co-convener Denis McEntyre said the club had commissioned about 500 $3 reusable cotton bags for book buyers to use over plastic ones.

"We recognised if the environment is to be improved, we have got to do something proactive.''

The money raised goes into the club's general fund to support various community causes throughout the year.

Books range from $2, while any collectable treasures that are discovered are later auctioned on social media.
