Board members retract comments critical of trust

Roxburgh Community Board members have backtracked after criticising the Central Lakes Trust's handling of a funding application for a Millers Flat project.

At last week's board meeting, board chairman Stephen Jeffery and member John Lane said they were upset the trust seemed to have "penalised" the Millers Flat hall committee, which had saved money on its reroofing project by carrying out its own project management.

Although the trust had approved a grant of up to $16,000 to cover the shortfall in the project, it paid out $9425.

Mr Lane and Mr Jeffery said on Monday they had received more information and now "retracted" their earlier comments.

It was now apparent the trust had taken the volunteer labour into consideration before making its grant and in fact included the figure for volunteer labour in its calculations, rewarding the group for that work.

"Now that more information has come to light, I'm more than happy with the assistance provided to the Millers Flat hall committee by the trust," Mr Lane said.

Mr Jeffery agreed with his comments.
