The largest field for the South Island BMX Titles meeting in the last 10 years will take to the Alexandra BMX track this weekend.

About 332 riders are entered, ranging in age from 4 to 60.

Building up for the event, about 254 riders took part in the Alexandra BMX Club's Heatwave meeting last night.

The event was rescheduled this year to coincide with the South Island titles to attract more riders.

Club president Steve Adair said the last time the South Island titles were raced in Alexandra was 2009.

''The club and the local business community are excited about it. There are up to 900 people in town.''

Mr Adair said racing would start tomorrow about 11am and finish about 4pm.

Sunday's racing would start between 8am and 9am and finish about mid-afternoon.
