Bigger, better and with an industrial feel.
That is what organisers are promising for this year's Turners and Growers Teviot Valley Wearable Tartan Art Awards, with a landmark new venue expected to catapult the event to ‘‘a whole new level''.
The Turners and Growers Pipfruit Cool Store (previously known as Enza), in Ettrick, has been announced as the venue for this year's event. Spokeswoman Trudie Marsh said organisers were excited about the move and feeling bold and innovative.
‘‘It [the cool store] has an awesome industrial atmosphere and the committee will be doing their own creative design to organise the transformation into a spectacular venue. And the timing of the event in September means the venue will be a big empty shell to work with rather than being full of fruit!''
The inaugural wearable tartan awards event was held in 2014 and the success of the event meant a new approach was needed for the next one, Mrs Marsh said.
The show, held in the Roxburgh Town Hall, was a sellout. Fifty garments were entered across five categories.
Organisers wanted to expand the event for the next show, while still retaining its ‘‘table and chair'' setting and only holding it for one night, and the bigger cool store venue would allow that, Mrs Marsh said.
A catwalk and stage would be constructed from fruit bins, and up to 400 people could be accommodated in the new venue, she said.
Organisers were also thrilled to have Turners and Growers come on board as naming sponsor, in what was a significant first for the event and would assist its expansion, Mrs Marsh said.
The event would be held on September 10 and those interested in entering were being encouraged to start thinking about their ideas, she said.
More information and entry forms are available from 103 The Store, in Roxburgh, or the event's Facebook page, Teviot Tartan Time.
