An award celebrating the Clyde Railway Station restoration effort is an ''awesome'' recognition of the community's work, its working group convener says.
The project was announced this month as the winner of the Rail Heritage Trust's 2017 Restoration Award.
Working group convener Clair Higginson received the award on behalf of the group, the Central Otago District Council and Promote Dunstan at the Federation of Rail Organisations in New Zealand conference in Dunedin.
Initially she was unsure whether the community would support the project, she said.
''But they recognised they had to get it done. It's pretty awesome that the Clyde community got behind this and did it.''
The Clyde Railway Station opened in April 1907 when the Otago Central Railway reached Clyde.
By 2005 it was clear the station ''needed a lot of work'', Ms Higginson said.
''Now it looks like a cared-for building. It could last for the next 100 years.''
The $90,000 project was funded by Promote Dunstan, Central Lakes Trust, the Lotteries Commission and a public appeal.
