Arrest after Cromwell teen's near-death

An arrest has been made in relation to the near-death of a Cromwell high school pupil.

The 16-year-old collapsed in a street after consuming an amount of vodka in the town on a night when temperatures dropped to about -5 degrees.

When found by a member of the public the teen was unresponsive, hypothermic, and possibly only an hour away from death, police said.

Sergeant Simon Paget said an 18-year-old Cromwell woman had been arrested and charged with supplying alcohol to a minor.

She will appear in the Alexandra District Court on September 17.
