Armed police have arrested a Clinton man near Alexandra this morning.
A police spokeswoman said about 9:30am this morning, police responded to a family harm incident in Otago.
Sergeant Bruce Terry, of Cromwell, said a 32-year-old Clinton man involved in the incident was travelling through Central Otago.
About 11.30am, police stopped and arrested the man on Conroys Rd, about 6km from Alexandra.
A reporter at the scene witnessed one officer carrying a gun.
No firearms were recovered during the incident and the man did not have a firearm.
The man would appear in the Alexandra District Court today on assault charges.
The Armed Offenders Squad were not called to the scene.
