Rpxburgh residents questioned Carisbrook Stadium Trust (CST) representatives about Dunedin's Awatea St stadium project at a roadshow presentation in the township last night.
Concerns were raised by residents about appropriate corporate branding of the facility, hire costs, and whether Dunedin was too out of the way to attract major acts.
CST commercial manager Guy Hedderwick said the main sponsors would not include companies and corporations involved in alcohol.
He said that without a suitable venue, no acts could perform, and if Dunedin had an appropriate venue, acts would come - the University of Otago's 20,000 students were waiting for such a venue to attract big acts.
CST representatives told the 22 residents present at last night's meeting the stadium would have spin-off benefits to small Otago towns such as Roxburgh, boosting the entire region's economy.
"It's important for the region to start attracting large groups of people to the area, which the stadium will do.
It will really put Dunedin and Otago on the international map," he said.
Mr Hedderwick said the stadium would be financially stable and once built would not rely on ratepayer spending.
Marketing Bureau Ltd chief executive Brian Meredith said the stadium was more than just a rugby ground.
"It is not a replacement for Carisbrook and it is not a stadium.
This project is more multifaceted than that - it will incorporate all sorts of things and will become the heart of the entire Otago community," he said.
