Staff from both Coronet Peak and the Remarkables will be heading north to the Mid Canterbury mountain to help the ski area bring forward its opening day to May 30 - conditions permitting.
Mt Hutt has received more than 170cm of snow during the past 12 days, resulting in a 110cm snow base and a decision to work towards the Queen's Birthday weekend opening.
Mt Hutt Ski Area manager Dave Wilson said it was the best early snow the ski area had received in "decades".
Further south at the Remarkables Ski Area, 55cm of snow had fallen in the past week.
On Monday, the base had up to 45cm of snow on the ground, but the weather was starting to clear.
Across the Wakatipu basin at Coronet Peak, up to 50cm of snow had fallen in the past week. The field had 25cm at the top on Sunday night and 15cm at the base, but both fields were being cautious about the prospects of retaining the snow so early in the year.
