Within living memory . . .

Dunedin artist Ralph Hotere is setting up an exhibition with a difference — a burnt-out fishing boat — in the Sargood Wing of the Dunedin Public Art Gallery.

The fishing boat, known as the Poitrel, was burnt out in the Miller and Tunnage shipyard fire in Port Chalmers late last year (1984).

While assembling his exhibition he came across one major problem: the huge room is not large enough.

Here Ralph attempts to condense his work in his mind's eye.
