The southern regional competitions of the Te Puka a Maui Cultural Council were held at the Teachers' College Auditorium in October 1984.

Competing were, front row (from left), Lara Millar, Niki Millar, Lana Millar and Tania Jenner, representing the Te Huinga Rangatahi O Nga Hau e Wha Otepoti group from Dunedin.

Seven Māori groups involving more than 300 people from Cromwell, Bluff, Invercargill and Dunedin took part.
