As one of the first events of iD Dunedin Fashion Week, the show, organised by Presbyterian Support Otago, used local resources and talent to create a sight and sound spectacle for the sell-out crowd at Fever Club.
The organiser, retail manager Chrissy Anderson, said inspiration came from the amount of pre-loved jewellery and clothing the organisation had coming through its three stores.
Designers and the public were inspired by previous fads and she wanted a show which would appeal to "baby-boomers" and also teach younger generations about how looks roll around.
"You've actually got to go back to find what the future will bring," Ms Anderson said.
Fashion from the 1950s, '60s, '70s and '80s was on display in 140 outfits, before the audience was given a peek into the future with collections from Otago Polytechnic graduates Melanie Child, Anna Holmes-Libbis and Kate Butler.
Most of the pieces from the past will be on sale at Shop on Carroll during iD's Starlight Shopping today, at 5.30pm.
All proceeds from the event and sales will go to Family Works.
