Three charges laid over Christchurch car chase

A 20-year-old Belfast man faces three charges over Monday afternoon's high speed police chase across northern Christchurch.

Namana Te Rangi James Taia, a machine operator, was remanded on bail to February 12. The remand was granted by a registrar at Christchurch District Court today and Taia did not need to appear in court before a judge.

Police say the chase began in Burwood Road and ended in Russley Road eight minutes later when the driver crashed into a police car.

Taia has entered no pleas to charges of reckless driving on Burwood Road, failing to stop for a following police car using its lights and siren, and driving while his licence was suspended.
