A Sydney-based team of riders, featuring a former Kaitangata local, will take part in this month's Black Gold Trail event around the coal-mining township.
Kaitangata born and bred Jaren Blackie, a personal trainer in the New South Wales capital, will return home to South Otago with some of his clients for the event that includes a mountain-biking leg, a half marathon and a duathlon.
The team is due to arrive on Wednesday.
On Saturday, November 14, the event's competitors will tour through the area's bush trails and forestry roads before contestants travel along the Kaitangata hills down to the Matau mouth of the Clutha River.
The event includes a full-course bike ride of 45km and a short-course event of 20km, plus a 20km cross-country run.
