Rachel (17), and Tamara (14), Hawkins, of Waipiata, were the senior and junior winners of the awards for the Maniototo this year.
Their older sister, Marissa Hawkins, was the senior winner nominated by the Maniototo Area School in 2007, when she was 16.
The same year, a 15-year-old Rachel was the junior nominated alongside her sister, and both went on to receive tertiary education scholarships.
Marissa received a three-year scholarship to attend Otago Polytechnic and Rachel won a week at the University of Otago's summer school programme.
At this year's annual awards ceremony in Dunedin on Friday , Rachel and Tamara received their awards, which included pounamu pendants.
They were supported by their parents, Stu and Judy, and Marissa, who wore her pendant from 2007.
Fellow pupils and the Maniototo Area School's kapa haka group also travelled to Dunedin to support the sisters.
Rachel received an Otago Polytechnic scholarship worth $5000 a year for three years.
She is in year 12 at the Maniototo Area School, but principal Peter Heron said the scholarship would make her studies in year 13 less demanding.
Each year, organisers of the awards allocate scholarships to outstanding nominees identified as benefiting from particular avenues of tertiary education.
The event is run in conjunction with Ngai Tahu, Otago Polytechnic, and the University of Otago.
