Businessman charged with attempted murder

A prominent businessman has appeared in the High Court at Auckland today charged with attempting to murder his former business partner.

Martin Victor Lyttelton, 51, from Remuera, was the former managing director of Calan Healthcare Property Trust.

He has been accused of trying to murder his former business partner and seriously injuring the man's girlfriend, the Stuff website reported.

The charges arose from a confrontation at the home of former Calan shareholder Richard Orb and his partner Colleen Fenton.

The couple, along with Lyttelton, had previously been locked in a Supreme Court battle, which Mr Orb won.

Lyttelton, 51, appeared in the High Court today to face one charge of attempted murder, one of causing grievous bodily harm and a charge of aggravated robbery.

No jury was empanelled; instead the court heard legal argument between the lawyers, most of which was heard confidentially.
