Club stalwarts' track records recognised

Seven South Otago athletics administrators who have logged more than 150 years' combined service were formally recognised during a night of awards in Balclutha.

The club presented six long-serving members with life memberships, while another received a special service award.

Three couples - Peter and Dale McCrostie, Pam and Neville Goodsir, and Munro and Rowena Bunting - were among those recognised.

The McCrosties, who both received life memberships, joined the club committee in the 1981-82 season and remained on it until 1999.

Mr McCrostie was club president for four seasons and president of Athletics Otago in the 1996-97 season.

His wife was treasurer in the mid-1980s.

The Goodsirs joined the club committee in the mid-1980s and served until the 2007-08 season.

Mr Goodsir was also president for two separate terms, while Mrs Goodsir served two terms as club treasurer.

The Buntings joined the club committee in the 1983-84 season and served until last season.

Mrs Bunting has been club secretary for more than a decade and recently served two terms as treasurer.

Meanwhile, Mr Bouman was recognised for his more than 25-year tie to the club which has included an uninterrupted quarter-century on the committee and two four-year terms as president.

He has also been vice-president of Otago Athletics for two terms, a senior athlete delegate and selector for the Otago centre, a junior coach, and has had heavy involvement in the annual half marathon event.
