Wanaka's industrial zone is to be extended to meet anticipated demand up to 2020.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council proposes rezoning as industrial 26.9ha of rural general land beside the existing Ballantyne Rd industrial area, through a plan change.
The council's strategy committee approved a proposed plan change be drawn up. and a strip of industrial zoned land along Ballantyne Rd be "re-sited" to beside the existing industrial area on Frederick St.
A report to the committee by council senior policy analyst Alyson Hutton says initial consultation had taken place with the landowners on the plan change.
The council had sent a pamphlet to neighbouring landowners and received feedback.
Ms Hutton said the 23 neighbours' submissions included.-
- The buildings should be painted in recessive colours.
- High quality landscaping should be enforced.
- Sufficient car parking for workers and visitors be provided.
- Industrial zoning should not be on high land areas.
Some of the issues raised would be addressed by provisions in the proposed plan change, she said.
A draft plan change will be presented to the committee at its November meeting.
Meanwhile, the committee is seeking feedback on Wanaka's urban boundary.
The council is proposing to set out Wanaka's urban boundary in a proposed plan change.
A report to the committee by council's senior policy analyst Mark Rushworth says the plan change gives the community the opportunity to fine tune the town's boundaries.
The committee approved limited consultation through a summary discussion document which will be sent out to residents in council's newsletter Scuttlebutt.
The Wanaka Urban Boundary Working Party and council staff will be holding one-to-one sessions with residents at the Lake Wanaka Centre on November 2.
