Bullying problems tackled at park

Police hope they have stopped bullying at under-16 rugby practices at Mosgiel's Peter Johnstone Park.

Sergeant Kevin Davidson, of the police youth aid section, said a group of young people had been harassing other young people using the park on Thursday nights for rugby practice.

In one incident, the group confronted one of the players and the team had been forced to retreat to the changing rooms.

Some parents had become wary of leaving their children at practice, and others had decided not to take them at all.

Youth Aid, Mosgiel police and the Dunedin City Council had worked together to trespass those involved from the park.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested for wilfully trespassing on August 4, Sgt Davidson said.

Police monitored the next practice and there had been no trouble.

"Hopefully, the problem has been dealt with, but if parents do still have any concerns they should contact the Mosgiel police," he said.
