Tourist hits the wrong pedal

A 23-year-old Korean tourist drove into the Queenstown Medical Centre, in Isle St, at 10pm on Wednesday, damaging a pillar in the underground car park. Police said the man thought his accelerator was the brake.

No charges have been laid.

A 50-year-old Arrowtown man crashed on the Kawarau bridge at 3.45pm on Thursday. Acting Sergeant Logan Dickie said the man drove into a ditch.

• A car caught fire on the Frankton-Ladies Mile highway at 5pm on Thursday.

Two young women were driving to Christchurch when their car caught fire from a suspected electrical fault, Sgt Dickie said.

It was "well involved" when the Arrowtown fire brigade arrived at the scene.

The road was closed for 40 minutes.

• A tyre business in the Frankton industrial area was burgled on Wednesday night.

Sgt Dickie said over $2000 cash was taken.

A shed was broken into on the Lower Shotover delta.

Nothing was taken.
