Funeral held for NZer shot dead in Jamaica

The funeral for the New Zealand man who was murdered in Jamaica during an attempted robbery was held in the Bay of Plenty yesterday.

Tiki Stardust Steel Hunia, 27, was shot dead on July 7 at a guest house in the capital Kingston where he was on vacation with his wife Nickie-Jean.

Two men entered the house with one of the men hitting Mrs Hunia on the back of her head with a gun.

Mr Hunia jumped to her defence and in the ensuing scuffle was shot twice in the chest.

He died in hospital a short time later.

The Hong Kong-based IT consultant's tangi was held at Ruaihona Marae in his home town of Te Teko in eastern Bay of Plenty yesterday, The New Zealand Herald reported.

Mr Hunia was buried at the marae's urupa where other family members were buried.

Kingston police said they were continuing investigations into the shooting.
