Popular opera classics and hits from musicals were enjoyed by about 40 residents and visitors in Kingston and bolstered the township's emergency services building fund by $450.
Cats to Carmen was performed by mezzo-soprano Genevra Harker, of Kingston, soprano Sue Patterson, of Queenstown, and pianist Alison Froude, of Queenstown, in the Kingston Community Centre on Friday evening.
Favourites from Chess, Carousel, Evita and Porgy and Bess were among the songs performed.
The evening was the latest boost for the emergency services building fund, which aims to extend the existing Kingston fire station to accommodate the fire brigade, St John, part-time health professionals and a police service, at a cost of about $300,000.
The project has raised more than $120,000, mostly in grants and pledges from the Queenstown Lakes District Council, St John and the New Zealand National Rural Fire Service.
About $15,000 has been raised by residents over the past year.
Building fund committee chairman John James said Cats To Carmen had been "an incredibly good event with three talented artists".
Plans would be finalised at a meeting tonight.
Drawings and quotes had been prepared for the proposed extension, Mr James said.
