Some of Central Otago's best mountain bikers are preparing to compete in the inaugural Skins Alpine Epic stage race, which starts at Mt Somers tomorrow.
The four-day event, which is being organised from Timaru, will be New Zealand's first stage mountain bike race.
It will comprise 60 teams of two people, who will each complete the full five-stage course from Mt Somers to Tekapo.
At least five teams from Alexandra have entered.
Of those, Alexandra mountain bikers Malcolm McLeod (38), and Geof Blance (45), are hoping to win the veteran section of the race, having a combined age of more than 80 which qualifies them to enter the section.
