Desktop disaster aid a hit

Willingness to help has resulted in Macandrew Intermediate pupils raising $200 for Victorian fire victims.

The school council organised a "desktop sale" in which pupils rented a desk for $2 and used it to display goods for sale during lunchtime yesterday.

Pikelets, sweets, books, jewellery, art, cosmetics and even a Playstation were among the items for sale.

Pupils were able to choose how much money they donated to the cause, but deputy principal Sue Harlow believed the majority would give all they raised.

Council chairman Joel Meade (12) thought the sale was "just a good way to help out".

"If it happened to us, a lot of people would help us."

Kimberley Stewart (12) ran a chocolate wheel, to which she donated soft toys she had won through skill-tester machines.

She believed it would be a way to "make more money" for the fund.

The council hoped to raise another $300 for the fire victims with a mufti day next Friday.
