Campers at the Alexandra Holiday Park have been fascinated by a large double-sided display covered in old advertisements from the 1950s and 1960s, erected this summer by the store operator.

Eric Brockie, of Dunedin, runs the camp store over the summer holidays and he has always loved "old stuff", as he puts it.

He has collected model vehicles and now sells them around the South Island, but takes time out for his camp store duties for a few weeks.

His collection of "old stuff" included numerous large advertisements from magazines and newspapers and he decided to laminate some of them and put them on display.

"A lot of people stand there and read them all, and they try to work out where the old stores used to be, as most of them have disappeared from Dunedin now.

"Businesses such as McKenzies, Woolworths, DIC and Brown Ewing were household names, but they've all gone now," he said.

Mr Brockie has almost 100 advertisements on display, including a large photo of the Hayman's fire in the early 1950s.
