Psych report for man who made 72 calls

A mental health assessment has been ordered for a Christchurch man charged with making 72 annoying phone calls.

Leoindos Markos Kazakos, of the suburb of Richmond, will see a psychiatrist at Hillmorton Hospital in mid-January and is due back in court on remand on January 30, the Christchurch Court News website reported.

The remand for the psychiatric report - which was supported by the psychiatric nurse who works at the Christchurch Court House - was sought by Kazakos' defence counsel, Andrew Bailey.

"The outcome of the report will determine how this proceeds," he explained to Christchurch District Court Judge Mark Callaghan, who then ordered the report under the Criminal Procedures (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act.

Kazakos, an unemployed 31-year-old, is charged with making the calls to a local couple and the staff at the radio station, More FM, from June 20 to September 9.

While he is on remand, he has been forbidden to go near the couple's house nor the station, which has its offices in Victoria St, and he is also banned from contacting them.
