Calling all vocalists ... Christmas is coming and that means caroling.

The Combined Churches of Green Island are on the hunt for singers for its Festival of 9 Lessons and Carols service, an off-shoot of the version held at King's College Chapel, Cambridge in England.

Choir master Jack Rutherford said aside from the singing, it was about the community.

''The service is [an] expression of our community togetherness, which makes Green Island such a great place to live,'' Mr Rutherford said.

As well as the singing of traditional carols, the service would involve readings by business, education, medical, sporting and service institutions in the district.

''I'm not looking for [top singers], just anyone ... who enjoys singing.''

Mr Rutherford hoped the service would become an annual event.

It would be held at St Margaret's Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 20 from 7pm.

A practice would be held at St Margaret's on November 30 at 7.30pm for anyone wanting to get involved.
