Police are searching for a man they believe is responsible for breaking a tourist's jaw during an attack in central Queenstown.
An Australian tourist was taken to hospital after his jaw was broken during what police have labelled an assault about 12.30am on Wednesday.
It was not clear what led to the incident, Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said.
The alleged attacker was spotted by CCTV leaving the scene with a group of friends.
The CCTV footage shows the man, who was wearing blue jeans and a dark beanie, being led away by a friend.
A female pushes him from behind and ''looks pretty annoyed with him'', police said.
The tourist was taken to Lakes District Hospital, Frankton, after the attack and then transferred to Southland Hospital.
Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may know the identity of the alleged offender.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Queenstown police on (03) 441-1600. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
