Taieri held on to the Speight's Challenge Shield with a 15-8 win against Southern at Peter Johnstone Park this afternoon.
There was a lot of whistle in the game and the visitors took a pounding in the penalty count.
Southern managed the game's only try through winger Eroni Sotutu just before the break. But three second half
penalties for Josh Casey sealed the win.
In the other games Dunedin defeated Kaikorai 34-23, while University A smashed Zingari-Richmond 57-10.
Alhambra-Union was too strong for Green Island in the second spell, running out winners 49-21, and Harbour finished powerfully to overwhelm Pirates 42-5.
