A record 2591 people visited the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum on Anzac Day, more than 1400 of them arriving by 9am, the museum said.
The early visitors, many having attended the commemorative dawn service at the nearby Queens Gardens, were served refreshments by museum staff and volunteers from the Otago Settlers Association.
A total of 5852 visitors went to the museum during Anzac weekend, museum director Jennifer Evans said.
It was a record Anzac Day attendance and well up on 1833 on the corresponding day last year, officials said.
The largest number to have visited Toitu on any one day was 3609, on December 30 2012, just after the museum had reopened after its redevelopment.
