Police are investigating the death of a 21-year-old male shot and killed while hunting near Raetihi, the second hunting death of the weekend.
Ohakune police said the man was part of a three-person hunting group on farmland in Ruatiti, near Raetihi.
Police were called about 4.30pm yesterday after the man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
At this stage police believe his firearm discharged while he has crossing a fence.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident and this matter has been referred to the coroner.
A 16-year-old boy was shot while duck-hunting in Matata yesterday morning and died at the scene.
The teenager, a student at Trident High School, was with two other teenage boys when he was hit after a firearm discharged, police said.
Whakatane police are investigating the death.
