The Acting Up company will debut its play, 'Be Careful What You Wish For', on December 3 at King’s and Queen’s Performing Arts Centre.
For the past five months the Acting Up Company has been exploring what life would be like if we were all the same, and now it is ready to reveal all to Dunedin.

The company's play, Be Careful What You Wish For, was written by the theatre group's 25 members to mark the United Nations Day of the Disabled on December 3.

The Acting Up Company is made up of mixed-ability performers from Idea Services.

The group spent the first six months, under the guidance of Otago University drama tutor Clare Adam, learning about performing before starting the process of play writing.

Idea Services community coordinator and company founder Natalie Wavre said Be careful What You Wish For came from stories, ideas and memories shared by members of the company.

‘‘We thought it would be good to look at diversity and the play features men dressed as women, puppets and looking at how boring the world would be if we were all the same.''

Rebekah McKenzie, who plays main character Felicity, is enjoying being part of the drama group.
‘‘I am quite enjoying it, it is something I can do during the day and I'm meeting new people.''

The Acting Up Company is proud to be part of Celebrate Diversity Week.

Be Careful What You Wish For will be performed at King's and Queen's Performing Arts Centre on December 3: a free matinee at 1pm and a performance at 6.30pm which will require a gold coin donation.
