Three people were hospitalised and both vehicles were badly damaged in the incident, which unfolded after an argument spiraled out of control.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said a 21-year-old woman was driving in Brockville Rd about 1.20am on Good Friday morning when a 20-year-old woman left a party, got in her mother’s Ford Ranger and started chasing the other woman down the hill, Snr Sgt Bond said.
It appeared the 20-year-old recognised a passenger in the 21-year-old’s car, and gave chase because they had previously had an argument.
While the 21-year-old was stopped at a red light in Kaikorai Valley Rd, the other woman allegedly rammed the other vehicle while travelling between 60kmh and 70kmh.
‘‘It doesn’t matter what someone’s done, don’t ram another car,’’ Snr Sgt Bond said.
When police arrived, the 20-year-old underwent breath testing procedures and recorded a breath alcohol level of 600mcg — the legal limit is 250mcg.
She was arrested for drink driving, reckless driving, and reckless driving causing injury, and will appear in Dunedin District Court at a later date.
While officers were dealing with the first crash, a 22-year-old man arrived to pick up one of the drivers from the crash.
He also underwent breath testing procedures and recorded a breath alcohol level of 672mcg.
He will also appear in Dunedin District Court on a charge of drink driving.
‘‘If you’ve gotten into an argument and you have been drinking, maybe wait until you have sobered up and assess things in the light of day,’’ Snr Sgt Bond said.
