Seven Cromwell martial artists won 19 medals, 15 of which were gold, at the Global Taekwon-Do Championships in Melbourne Australia.

Kman’s Martial Arts principal Kman McEvoy said it was an incredible effort as it was the first international for most of the team.

The seven competitors covered a wide range of ages from 10-year-old Emerson Douglas to 63-year-old Shane Ellis.

It was a family affair for Emerson’s family as her father Kevin Douglas and sister Megan also brought home medals.

The team won medals for a variety of categories — sparring, patterns, team patterns and self-defence.

McEvoy said martial arts were for all ages and could be enjoyed individually or with family members.

"We have students from four to 63 [years old] and a dozen families who train together to enjoy the benefits of martial arts, including self-confidence, fitness and self-defence."

The medal tally was:

  • Emerson Douglas, 10, four gold medals.
  • Megan Douglas, 13, three gold, one silver medal.
  • Anika Takimoana, 17, three gold, one silver medal.
  • Jared Roberts, 34, two gold, one silver.
  • Kevin Douglas, 42, one gold, one bronze medal.
  • Shane Ellis, 63, one silver medal.
  • Kman McEvoy, 59, one gold medal.
