An intellectually disabled cyclist missing from his Wellington home for three days has been found in a barn near Upper Hutt.
Marcos Desmond van Velzen (32) of Johnsonville, was reported missing by his mother after he left home on Friday on his mountain bike. Police said Mr van Velzen was an avid cyclist who loved the outdoors, and had been known to travel long distances on his bike.
He had previously travelled as far as Masterton and Wanganui before being found.
Inspector Steve Darroch said today police found Mr van Velzen in the barn in Whitemans Valley, 4km southeast of Upper Hutt, after receiving a call from a member of the public.
"There was a very positive response to calls for sightings. Police wish to thank the public for their help in locating Mr Van Velzen".
