A recently published survey found almost 50 per cent of the population wanted the country's summer holidays moved to February.
The survey, conducted by Research New Zealand and involving 500 people aged 18 years and over, found that 48 per cent of respondents believed the summer holiday period should be moved from December to February when the weather is warmer.
A similar survey carried out in 2010 found only 42 per cent of respondents wanted to move the holiday period to take advantage of warmer weather.
This year's survey also found North Island residents were keener on the change than their southern counterparts.
In total, 54 per cent of respondents from the upper North Island agreed to the move, compared with 39 per cent from the South Island, the survey found.
