The first 32 sections to be released at Queenstown’s newest subdivision, Park Ridge, will be auctioned on February 25.

In the southern corridor, north of Hanley’s Farm, the five-stage 600-section subdivision was originally approved by the government as a special housing area (SHA) in 2019, but there have since been delays due to infrastructure challenges.

Local Bayleys agent Sarena Glass, who’s marketing Park Ridge alongside colleague Sarah McBride, says they’re really happy with the turnout to open days last weekend despite Sunday’s rain — another open day’s scheduled for February 22, from 1 till 3pm.

The auction method’s been decided "to give everybody equal and fair opportunity to purchase [a section] if they want to".

"We’re going to do a pre-phase to get the order of sale, and then the most popular sites will be auctioned first, and then if somebody who really wants to get a particular site misses out on that, they can certainly then bid on their second or third preference."

Glass says six showhomes sites have been pre-sold, with each buyer also allowed to acquire another — "they’ve certainly been sold at market level".

Depending on demand, a second tranche of sections in the 122-lot first stage may be rolled out quite quickly.

No one’s allowed to put their homes into short-term visitor accommodation, and to fulfil SHA guidelines, buyers can’t landbank or on-sell their section without the developers’ approval. "I think the majority of the interest has been local, and certainly there were a lot of first-home buyers out there [on Sunday]," Glass says.
