Green fees boxes have been targeted by thieves at two southern golf courses over the past week and the thefts have been linked to similar offending earlier this year.
The Drummond Golf Club in Southland was hit on December 12 or 13 and the Clinton Golf Club on December 15 or 16, Acting Senior Sergeant Jared Kirk said.
The amounts taken were unknown, he said.
In February, the Otago Daily Times reported 25 clubs from North Canterbury to rural Otago, including in Waimate, Tekapo, Otematata, Omarama, Kurow, Alexandra, Naseby and Ranfurly, were raided by thieves targeting green-fee boxes, and in some cases liquor.
Police urged club members and local residents to be vigilant, and secure their property to minimise the opportunity for theft.
Residents were urged to report any suspicious activity to police immediately.
''Police have a far better chance of apprehending offenders if any suspicious activity is reported at the time,'' Acting Snr Sgt Kirk said.
Anyone with any information was urged to contact their local police station.
