A flight between Auckland and Christchurch had an unexpected stop in Dunedin after high winds prevented landing in Christchurch yesterday.
The mother of a passenger on Air New Zealand flight NZ527 from Auckland said on social media that after two attempted landings into Christchurch, the flight was diverted to Dunedin Airport.
"Thankfully, everyone is rattled, but safe."
Passengers landed in Dunedin about 11.30am, about an hour and a-half after their expected arrival time in Christchurch.
An Air NZ spokeswoman said the flight was diverted because of strong winds in Christchurch and landed at Dunedin Airport to refuel before making more attempts to leave.
The flight left Dunedin at 2pm and landed in Christchurch about an hour later. — APL
