A pirate’s life but only if it’s nice out

Part-time pirate Brandon Grenfall, of Te Ngaru, stands proudly on his skiff Blueballs with his dog Missy.

During the summer, Mr Grenfall tried to get out on the water once a week, often shooting across to Portobello.

"Weather permitting — you know what Dunedin’s like."

The skull and crossbones flag had flown from the skiff for about three years, he said.
